9月23日から25日まで三日間にわたる上海ジャパンウイークは上海郊外にある上海外国語大学松江（Song Jiang）キャンパスで開催されました。中国の人々による東日本大震災への支援に対する感謝の気持ちを伝え、そして日本文化の魅力を感じてもらうのがその趣旨だったそうです。開催地はたくさんの大学が集まっている大学城にあるので、大学の日本語学部の学生はもちろん、日本文化が大好きな大学生たちや上海以外のところからの若者もたくさん参加しました。各会場はチケットが要るので、在上海日本総領事館のホームページでの予約でチケットを入手できますが、人気がありすぎて、チケットが手に入らない学生たちもたくさんいました。

 

 

私は上海ジャパンウイークの開催日に先立ち9月17日に行われた大学生弁論大会を傍聴に行きました。「震災から人々は何を学ぶべきか」というテーマで全国の大学から24名の選手が激しい弁論をしました。選手たちの日本語力が高く、熱気にあふれる雰囲気の中で行われました。前半は「自然との共生共存」「天災より人災」「安全対策」「危機管理」「人間性の温かさ・強さ」「デマ情報の選別」などのキーワードで選手たちはそれぞれ主張を述べ、後半は自分の質問を指名で解答してもらうという形で討論しました。前の日の夜わかったこの最終テーマをめぐり、日本語力だけでなく、考える力や視野の広さも試されました。東日本大震災から半年を迎えた今頃、自分なりの考えを述べた選手たちの発言を聞いて、来場者も冷静に考えさせられました。

上海ジャパンウイークが本格的に始まった9月23日から25日までは、さまざまなイベントが開催され、日本の国民的アイドルAKB48、J-POP歌手の城南海(きずき みなみ)、玉置成実(たまき なみ)らのコンサート、東京KAWAIIファッションショー、茶道、華道、着物などの講座、カラオケ大会や企業ブースもありました。カラオケ大会に出た生徒の一人は優勝できないことを悔しがっていましたが、参加賞で青森林檎などの賞品がもらえたことを嬉しがっていました。優秀賞だったら、北海道観光の宿泊券や電子辞典などがあり、実に豪華な賞品でした。キリン、山崎パンなどの企業ブースで試飲食もできます。見たり、食べたり、もらったりして、いろいろ楽しめたそうです。それより日本らしいものが体験できたのは一番だと満足した学生がいっぱいでした。

弁論大会の最後に在上海日本総領事泉裕泰氏がご挨拶の中で、ご自分の経験したことを話してくださいました。私はとても感銘を受けたので、ここで皆さんと分かち合いたいと思います。総領事が30年前中国人の先生に中国語を学んだ時のことですが、ある日「今日は何の日ですか。」と先生に聞かれました。ちょうどその日は7月7日だったので、「天の川で織姫と彦星が一年に一度出会うとてもロマンチックな日です。」と答えたら、「今日は七七事変記念日といって、中日戦争が始まるきっかけとなった日ですよ。」と先生に大変怒られました。その日から、総領事はいろいろ調べ、中日の間で何が起きたかカレンダーに一つ一つ書き込んだそうです。たとえ同じ空間にいたとしても、同じ日に対して、中日の受け止め方が全く違うと、人間の考えが実に違うものです。信じ込みを捨てて交流をすれば、心の距離は縮まり、お互いの理解を深めることができ、真の友好が生まれるのです。今後も今回の上海ジャパンウイークのような交流イベントがどんどん行われることを期待しています。

一年間の日本生活を終えて、上海に帰ってきて、あっという間に2ヶ月経ちました。帰ってきたばかりのころは、まだ日本から上海への生活の切り替えがうまくできなくて、一年ぶりの上海生活に慣れようと努力してきました。丸一年の空白なので、周りの新しい変化に驚かされましたが、その中の一つで、言葉の激変が取り上げられます。

 

テレビのコマーシャルばかりでなく、周りの人々からよく「給力」という言葉を耳にしました。最初は「ええ？」と違和感がありましたが、何度も聞いているうちに意味がだんだん分かるようになりました。もとは中国東北地方の方言で、形容詞として「すごい」「すばらしい」といった意味ですが、感嘆語として「がんばれ」の意味としてネット上で使われはじめたそうです。そして動詞として、「力を与える」「力を入れる」の意味で使われています。否定の意味で、「不給力」も広く使われています。中央機関紙『人民日報』の報道記事のタイトルにまで出たことで、その影響力の大きさが伺え知れるでしょう。「江蘇給力」とは「江蘇省がすごい」という意味です。
